WINDSOR, Colo. — Winters in Northern Colorado mean that, sooner or later, the process of snow removal at a facility like Future Legends is inevitable.

Getting a 118-acre complex properly cleared of snow can be a complicated undertaking, but the team at Future Legends makes it seems simple and streamlined.

“When it comes to snow around the complex, we prepare days prior in order to be successful once the snow starts to fall,” Future Legends facilities manager Tino Miranda said.

An important first step in the process, days before any snow falls, is to make sure the equipment required is ready and available when the winter storm finally arrives.

“The days prior consist of making sure machinery such as snow blowers, plows, backpack blowers, salt spreaders and shovels are all in working order so we can show up to work knowing everything is ready to go and a minute is not wasted,” Miranda said.

However, not all snowfall necessitates removal, there does need to be a fair amount of accumulation before equipment is activated.

“Once the snow starts to accumulate to around an inch and a half to two inches then we start to remove it,” Miranda said.

The most important aspect to snow removal, and maintaining the complex in general, is safety, and with snow in particular it is important to keep in mind that the complex sits across the street from Windsor Charter Academy, and students do use some of the walkways on the complex to get to and from school.

“Safety is always our number one priority so if that means we get started a couple hours before people start showing up to clear walkways then that’s what we are willing to do in order to ensure safety,” Miranda said. “We like to make sure all sidewalks and walkways are cleared of snow anytime we are able so we can ensure the safety of anyone that comes on site. Our main focus when snow does fall and accumulate is any sidewalks and walkways around the dome and school sidewalk areas.”
