Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the club offering this season compared to last year?
A: Last season, the club operated in partnership with a local organization that included youth programs and teams playing on diversified platforms alongside but not integrated to professional teams. This year, those teams have moved on from our umbrella, and we are refocusing to strengthen our professional development pathway through Rain FC and Hailstorm FC.
We are now offering a premier development programs with high-level training led by highly qualified coaches, as well as identification (ID) opportunities for regional and national teams. For older age groups, we’ve added a more analytical approach, including Individual Development Plans (IDPs) tailored to each player’s progress and goals. This will all be under the umbrella of the Rain FC and Hailstorm and as such there is no longer an independent Lightning Academy, but a PDP program that will develop into a Pro Academy with the development of the professional teams.
For our younger age groups, we’re placing a strong emphasis on age-appropriate curriculum designed to support long-term player development in a fun and structured environment, adding Futsal Curriculum under the leadership of successful coaches in the game.
In addition, in the future we will host training camps and ID events featuring current and former professional players and top-level coaches. To cap off the season, older players will have the opportunity to participate in an international trip in June 2026, where they’ll gain valuable experience and exposure by comparing themselves to players at international academies.
Q: Will there be teams affiliated with the club?
A: Currently, there are no official teams directly affiliated with the club. However, we are building a pathway to form teams that can compete on high-level platforms in the future. Based on the number of players in our training groups, we may also organize competitive match opportunities to give players valuable game experience. Our focus is that players have access to individual development in an elite environment where there is also a pathway to our pro teams for the future of the pro Academies.
Q: Why should players choose to train with FC Rain and Hailstorm PDP ?
A: For older players, FC Rain and Hailstorm PDP offer a unique focus on individual development. Our training environment is designed to meet the demands of high-level soccer, with personalized attention and follow-up to help each player reach their potential. For some, we provide the essential, high-quality training they need to grow. For others, we offer a fresh perspective—a different voice and coaching style that can be incredibly valuable during these formative years.
For younger players, we emphasize the importance of development through age-appropriate training led by qualified coaches. At a young age, players absorb information quickly, and we want to ensure they’re building a strong foundation with proper guidance.
We also value the role of parent coaches and will provide opportunities for them to learn and grow within our system. Whether you’re a player or a parent coach, there’s a place for you to thrive with FC Rain and Hailstorm PDP.
Q: How do you manage different skill levels within the same training group?
A: Great question! We take a thoughtful approach to ensure each player receives the development they need. During our first session—and in our “Try Us Out” events—we assess each player to determine the most effective path for their individual growth.
Our training sessions are designed with a low coach-to-player ratio (ideally 1:10, never exceeding 1:16), allowing us to group players by ability and tailor the experience accordingly. For older players who may eventually compete as a team, we structure sessions to prepare for that while still ensuring all players get meaningful development. Our top priority is player development at every level.
Q: What is the cost to participate?
A: Pricing details are available on our website. We’ve made every effort to keep costs as low as possible because we believe all players should have access to quality development opportunities, regardless of their financial situation.
If cost is a concern, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re happy to work with families to help cover fees and ensure every player has the chance to grow in the game.
Q: What facilities will FC Rain PDP be using?
A: We will primarily be training at the Future Legends Complex in Windsor, utilizing the available fields and resources there. Additionally, we’ve secured access to other nearby facilities to ensure we can meet demand and maintain high-quality training environments for all our players
Q: We’ve heard there will be collaborations with other clubs and programs—is that true?
A: Yes, that’s correct. Our mission is to create meaningful opportunities for players who aspire to college and professional pathways. To support that goal, we are actively collaborating with other clubs and programs that share our vision for player development.
We’ll be sharing more details about these partnerships soon—stay tuned for updates!
